Our Billion Dollar MD-95 Aircraft Order The Airliner For The Next Century AirTran is the proud launch customer of Boeing's MD-95 aircraft. The state-of-the-art MD-95 is designed to be the most efficient, most reliable, quietest and cleanest aircraft ever built. The airline has a firm order for 50 planes with the option to purchase an additional 50 -- a $1 billion dollar order on which progress payments are already being made. In May 1997, workers lowered the MD-95s center fuselage barrel into place -- thus, beginning the final assembly of the first aircraft. Meanwhile in Dahlewitz, Germany, the MD-95 BR715 engine -- built by BMW Rolls Royce -- is running in the initial phases of its development and certification program. Not only is the MD-95 the most advanced aircraft in the world, it is arguable the most customer-friendly. AirTran's MD-95 is the only new 100-seat airplane with 100 percent fresh outside cabin air (no re-circulation) supplied to its customers. According to AirTran CEO Corr, "the MD-95 will be the yardstick that all other airplanes are measured against. The aircraft is simply the most advanced of its kind. There is no better aircraft on this planet." Delivery of AirTran's first MD-95 is slated for June 1999.
